Infrared Coagulation (IRC) is a quick, easy, painless, non surgical treatment for hemorrhoids. The FDA approved procedure takes only about 10 minutes per session and does not require fasting, medications or any other preparations. This means busy patients can come in for hemorrhoid treatment during lunch breaks or between appointments and return to their schedule in half an hour.
During IRC procedure, the area directly above hemorrhoid is exposed to a few bursts of infrared light. This coagulates the vessels that feed hemorrhoids causing hemorrhoids to shrink and recede. There may be a mild sensation of heat, but it is generally not painful; therefore no anesthesia is required.
Is the procedure painful?
IRC treatment is generally pain free and causes much less discomfort that any other non surgical hemorrhoid treatment.
How long is IRC procedure?
If you are a new patient, allow 30 minutes for consultation and examination and an additional 10 minutes for IRC treatment. Follow up hemorrhoid treatments take about 15 minutes per visit.
How many treatments are required?
Doctor evaluates patients on a case by case basis. Based on your examination, your physician will determine how many visits are required. Depending on the severity of hemorrhoids, most patients require 3-6 visits at 1-2 weeks interval.
Is there any special preparation required before or after IRC?
No. The procedure requires no fasting, no medications, no enema or laxatives prior to hemorrhoids treatment. It requires no anesthesia and there is no restrictions after the procedure. Most patients go back to work the same day following their hemorrhoid treatment.
Can I be treated with IRC if I am on medication?
Yes, we are able to treat most patients with IRC who are taking medications. It is important that you inform your physician of medication you are taking.
Will I be able to have normal bowel movement with IRC?
Yes, IRC does not produce disruption to your daily schedule or lifestyle.
Can I be treated if my hemorrhoids are actively bleeding?
Yes, first IRC treatment should immediatly reduce your bleeding.
What should I expect during the consultation?
Prior to hemorrhoids treatment, your physician will conduct an external and internal examination(which only take several minutes) to document an extent of your hemorrhoid disease and insure there is no other disease responsible for your symptoms. Treatment with IRC is painless, safe and effective.
